If you check a place that supplies fiberglass, kevlar, and carbon fiber you'd see that carbon fiber doesn't cost all that much. You can get a yard long sheet of it for about $50-$60, compared to about $10- $15 for fiberglass. And this material is 38" wide, so if you ordered just a yard of it you'll get more than 9 square feet. When making a small part like that, most of the cost is labor. Using carbon fiber won't really add much to the cost of that part since not much material is used. Basically, you pay an enormous premium just to tell people you have a carbon fiber part. Same thing with titanium Z keys. It's all a novelty.
